face off
Success!
Instead of 24 million faces we now have about 300 000. That's called improvement!
Will now move on to making the ears more bunny like and also make some rad ass eyes!
Found a nice (but a little bit speedy) tutorial on how to model cartoon eyes.
Can't think of any better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Like, not being sarcastic.

storyboard lock down (for now at least).
During our meeting today we more or less finalised the storyboard.
Will show you bits and pieces as soon as I've actually drawn it other than some fishy looking sketches in my notebook.
UPDATE!
X hours later I finished the drawings. Below you are witnessing pages of radness!
Status report presentation is due on Thursday so showing off our mad modeling skills along with storyboard and sound samples! Will be fantastico!
At least that's the plan. Ears crossed.

Dunedin Arts
Attended a lecture this morning on the topic "Introduction to Character Animation" given by Halldor Hallddorson (that's pretty much the Icelandic version of Johanna Johansson - I'm not alone! YES!) from Dunedin Arts.
It was good. He brought up a lot of basic principles that are so ridiculously obvious that you tend to forget them. People should be reminded of these more often.
He also provided us with some key information on bones and rigging. Honestly, very intriguing and now I can't wait to make some kick-ass bunny rigging!
Conclusion: 3D animation is awesome.

live from the studio!
Good morning!
It's 4:44 am - a fantastic hour to start modeling the bunny body! An exceptionally fine hour indeed (that's sarcasm people).
I've drawn up the body from front and side view as I intend to follow this tutorial as a point of reference and then see where it takes me.
This is Rodney's current fantastic figure:
It's a universal fact that NOBODY LIKES A SKINNY RABBIT.
Speaking of, have you ever thought about that skinny characters are always (this "always" is naturally up for debate) evil and the chubby ones are the good guys? I just realised. Wow. A 5am revelation. Holy cow and then some..!
I hope everyone is sound asleep.
See you in the morn.. later.

less Darko more Rodney (Yeah, that's his name! It's awesome!)
Did some more work on the rabbit face today, he's looking well happy now!
Later!
Jo
Also, here's a prototype of his bunnyphone 3. You might detect some resemblance to another brand when it comes to the design. Like, if you're really observant.
Later!

let the modeling commence!
Third meeting is over. A very successful one! We have now decided who is doing what in terms of modeling and sound, this is the start field (in broad terms):
Ali and Jin - sound
Dan - outdoor environment
Jessie and Kevin - kitchen
Jo - rabbit
Also, we have not been assigned any specific team roles apart from me (Jo) being the team coordinator. Democracy people, democracy!
To Blender!
Until next time,

storyline, take one
Ali did a great job summing up the storyline.
This is how it goes (for now):
"We meet rabbit casually slouching against a tree outside a detached house, playing with his smartphone 3, it has a carrot with a bite out of it on it. His head rises and he spots through the kitchen window a smartphone 4 shining proudly on a tall fridge in the corner, it has the same logo but better! Deciding to steal it, he looks around and seeing the coast is clear, whips out a stocking and pulls it over his head, squashing his facial features, his ears pop out the top.
He enters the kitchen through the window and jumps across the gap to the worktop (populated with cook books, scales, microwave, etc. a row of cupboards hang from the wall.) and makes his way along it, climbing up onto the fridge to take the phone. He looks at it carefully before picking it up, waits a beat, then looks to camera and smirks.
Rabbit turns and jumps from the frdge to the worktop, landing badly on one side of a set of scales, propelling the load from the other side into the air and hitting a knife rack which launches knives at rabbit, which he just manages to avoid. Pulling himself clear of the knives he runs into a blender which accidentally switches on with his foot. As he falls face first into the blades he catches a cupboard door above him, halting his fall but allowing a torrent of potatoes to fall on his head and chase him off the edge of the worktop, as well as knock over a bottle of oil which pours on to the floor. As rabbit lands on the floor he slips on the oil and lands badly. From his landing position he sees a pile of carrots and reaches for one. He compares the actual carrot in one hand with the "virtual" carrot in the other, weighing up the relative merits and questioning his motivation (ahem), before tossing the phone over his shoulder and happily eating the carrot. He looks to camera and shrugs as if to say, "well I am a rabbit".
Film ends, audiences go wild, Oscars becon, etc."
Tomorrow we're deciding on the design. Bring your best to hell with the rest!

it all happened on a tuesday
..which is like, a really insignificant member of the time unit also known as the "week".
Tuesday 18th of January on the other hand immediately gave that reputation a massive push toward the better. As passe as the concept of emailing might seem to some, good news sometimes travel through this medium. In this case, the groups were published for our Digital Media Studio Project course.
Team members (alphabetical order):
Jie Cai
Daniel Diaz
Kevin Hung
Hyejeong Jin
Johanna Johansson
Ali Murray
Project supervisors:
Themis Argyropoulos Artemis Neofytou
This is all part of the University of Edinburgh MSc Design and Digital Media programme's Digital Media Studio Project course. As the Digital Storytelling team, our initial brief / project outline was as follows:
"The aim of this project is to create a visually interesting 3D animated film, based on an imaginative scenario, inspired by students, in order to introduce this modern/digital way of storytelling to the audience. An important part of this proposal is the development of characters, not necessarily human-like, since it’s of great significance to understand the weight of expressions and kinesiology in 3D animations. Accordingly the conception of imaginative environments is a vital part of the whole apparatus. The basic medium for converting a short story to a short film will be all the features and tools that Blender software has to offer."
Today, during the course of our second group meeting we established a name for our team which, as the title suggests, is: Raiding Rabbit Studios. Seeing the end product, also known as our massively awesome animation, the chosen name will (hopefully) make sense.
We have now worked out a storyline and during the weekend we'll all sit down and scribble, dribble, doodle and so on trying to work out the style and design, the look and the feel.
That's it for now folks!
Let the weekend commence!
